I recently saw this idea on another blog which I really enjoy, and when I found myself at the end of our peanut butter jar I thought “hey… why not?” This is a fun, creative way to eat your oatmeal, and I had it for breakfast this morning, I can personally vouch for it’s yumminess! With the added bonus of it being healthy and very filling, you may want to just give this a try! Here is what you’ll need and what to do with it… When you get to the end of the nut butter jar in your cupboard and you just can’t scrape out that last tasty morsel, don’t through the jar out just yet, instead take the jar and fill it with 1/3 cup of Organic (uncooked) oats, our goal is to do 1 part oats to 2 parts liquid, so in mine I then added 1/3 cup vanilla almond milk and 1/3 cup of brown rice milk, now comes your add in’s…. I added 1 tbsp. ground flax seeds, about a tsp. alcohol free vanilla and a tsp. cinnamon then I put the lid on it and gave it a good shake and put it in the fridge for the next mornings breakfast! when I woke up I added about 1/2 of a banana cut up, gave it another good shake and enjoyed it… every last bite! It was delish, healthy, filling, easy and fun! I can’t wait til our next jar of peanut butter is at the end…. The only down side is that it is a breakfast just for one, unless you happen to have a few jars of almost done nut butters on hand! Don’t forget that Oats are a super nutritious food they are a great source of fiber, they help remove harmful cholesterol from your blood and help prevent cardiovascular disease! Here are some variations to consider:
use different alt. milks or yogurts for your liquids
I used peanut butter but any nut butter will do (remember all natural nut butters are best)
add chia seeds
add a tsp. honey or agave
add different berries
add raw nuts
get creative… have fun playing with your food!
